02 – A Letter To God

Mukunda felt such tenderness when he thought of God! Everything that he did or thought he longed to share with his Heavenly Father. Once, when he was a very little boy, he wrote, in the Bengali language, a letter to God. There he poured out everything that he wanted to say to Him. He addressed the letter, “God in Heaven,” and mailed it trustingly.

After two or three days he began looking for a reply. Each day letters came – for his father, his mother, even for his elder brother, but – no letter for Mukunda.

“Surely the Lord must have had time to answer by now,” Mukunda thought anxiously. “Can’t He spare just a few minutes to write me?” Every day the little boy waited eagerly for the postman. Alas! No letter came.

“Dear God,” he prayed lovingly, “You must answer my letter. I said so many things to You – so many important things!”

Weeks passed; his longing never abated.

Finally one day he saw a great light. In that light, to his indescribable joy, every part of his letter was answered – and in Bengali script! God had answered at last the letter of the child who had refused to give up a loving expectation.
